A special commemorative issue of Lucian Kaiso Magazine, celebrating calypso, and the FRC’s 50th anniversary.
The main purpose of this project is to publish a special commemorative issue of the landmark calypso magazine Lucian Kaiso. First published by the FRC in 1990, Lucian Kaiso has been regarded by the Saint Lucian public as the only authoritative publication on the development of the calypso music genres in Saint Lucia. The magazine presents current information on the tents, the performers and the offerings for the calypso season. Additionally, there are a number of well researched articles on the various themes and issues surrounding performance, judging and calypso tent management. Some provocative opinions are shared by the aficionados and the experts. Since the release of the first issue, the FRC has published 18 issues of the Lucian Kaiso magazine.
The magazine is one of the products of the ongoing research on calypso in Saint Lucia, which has been undertaken by the Msgr. Patrick Anthony Folk Research Centre (FRC) since 1980. Other research related products include the publication of a book entitled the Reign of Terra, special television interviews, panel discussions, and occasional symposia on calypso.
