Official Launch of Creole Heritage Month 2025

Official Launch of Mwa Éwitaj Kwéyòl (Creole Heritage Month) 2025

Castries, Saint Lucia: The Monsignor Patrick Anthony Folk Research Centre (FRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Events Company of Saint Lucia (ECSL), is pleased to announce the official launch of Mwa Éwitaj Kwéyòl (Creole Heritage Month) 2025, scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the National Cultural Centre

The opening ceremony will be carried live on the National Television Network (NTN), allowing Saint Lucians at home and abroad to share in the beginning of a month-long celebration of Kwéyòl language, heritage, and tradition.

This year’s Creole Heritage Month promises a vibrant showcase of cultural expression through music, dance, cuisine, and storytelling. The calendar of activities includes the La Wenn Kwéyòl Pageant, the National Woulélaba Cricket Competition, Fèt Magwit, and culminates in Jounen Kwéyòl on Sunday, October 26, 2025, hosted by the communities of Belle Vue, Vieux Fort and Babonneau.

A highlight of this year’s celebration will be the presence of a 30-member cultural contingent from French Guiana, featuring performers of Saint Lucian heritage who will bring unique artistry to the island-wide festivities.

The FRC invites the public to tune in, participate, and embrace this annual tradition that honours our rich Kwéyòl heritage and identity.
